Basse Native Donates Textbooks to Gambia College

Majidi Jallow, a former student of Public Health at Gambia College, who is currently studying at the Western Nebraska Community College, in the United States, on Wednesday presented 70 medical textbooks to the School of Nursing in Banjul, at a ceremony held at the School.

Presenting the books on behalf of Majidi, his former lecturer at the School of Public Health, Balla Musa Joof told the gathering that Majidi was motivated by difficulties he had before in accessing relevant textbooks as a student. The donor, he added, still remembers how his lecturers had to make photocopies of handouts for them because textbooks were not available, and that when he  started his studies in the US, he realised how expensive books are. According to him, a good Anatomy and Physiology book can cost about $300.

Joof revealed that the donor with the help of other Gambian students in his college and his co-workers gathered these books for the School of Nursing.

For his part, Lamin Suwareh, the principal lecturer at the School of Nursing, expressed delight and gratitude to Majidi for the donation. He said the books will go a long way in enhancing their efforts, and urged other Gambians to emulate Majidi.
