Over D2M Worth of Materials for Basse Health Center

The Friends of Basse, a charitable organisation founded by the natives of Basse residing in the Diaspora and in The Gambia donated an ultrasonic scanning machine, among other health materials, worth two million eight hundred and fifty thousand dalasi (D2, 850, 000) to the Basse major health centre.

Brigite Cickholt Jawla and Venjacob from the organisation Gambia Hilfe Gatersloh in Germany donated the ultrasonic scanning machine, according to officials of Friends of Basse.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the health centre on Sunday, the governor of the Upper River Region, Omar Sampo Ceesay spoke at length on the importance of the gesture to his region. He commended the donors for their contribution towards the development of the region and the country at large.  According to him, the gesture is not a surprise to them as the donors have been contributing their quota to the development of URR.

Governor Ceesay, thus urged them to redouble their efforts in the quest for efficient and effective health service delivery in the region. On behalf of President Jammeh and his government, he thanked the donors for their tremendous efforts in participating in the promotion of health in the country.

The URR governor further advised the donors to maintain the spirit of unity and togetherness, and to always support government’s agenda. Commenting on the importance of the ultrasonic scanning machine to the people of URR and the surrounding, he urged the management of the health centre to take great care of the materials, with a view to ensure its sustainability.

The Regional Health director for URR, Alhagie Sankareh, commended the donors for their contribution to the development of health in the region. The ultrasonic scanning machine, he said, will go a long way towards complementing their efforts and alleviating some of their constraints and challenges. Sankareh assured the donors that the materials will be used for its intended purpose for the betterment of URR communities.

For his part, the National Assembly member for Basse, Honourable Muhammed Magasy described the donors as good citizens of the region and the country at large. He commended them for their efforts and contributions towards national development.

The Officer-in-Charge of Basse Health Centre, Burama Badgie affirmed that the donated materials have come at a right time. He also assured them that the items would be put into good use.

The public relations officer of Friends of Basse and the project officer of the organisation Abubacarr Krubally and Kawsu Sillah, both assured them of their association’s committment towards complementing the efforts of The Gambia government in their drive to move the country to a silicon state.

They explained that FOB was formed by citizens of URR living outside the country and those residing in the country in 2004, with the ultimate aim of contributing to the development of their region, by giving back to their communities.
