Re: Re: Great Idea

Thats correct Che, but more than that. My childhood is irretrievably connected to Basse, and some of my life long trusted friends are Bassenabe - school mates, neighbours at Angal Fouta, and indeed few minutes walk from your home, where my extended still family lives. Basse shall always remain very dear to my heart. I shall revert to you later regarding proposed projects. Meanwhile, its good for us all to continue networking.

Proud of Basse

I write to express my pleasure at reading such an interesting web site. I am not born in Basse but started my education there in 1962 whilst my father was on postings there. You would all be surprised if i post my first school fees receipts dated 1962. During this time senior citizens of Basse could remember that the cook to the Priests of St Georges school died and my father's posting there coincided with those of Mr Karamo Fatty interpreted(deceased) Mr Wilson-PWD (deceased) Mr John-driver PWD(deceased). During this time I could recall Momodou Dia of Senegal visited Basse. I still have fond memories of my playmates like ????Sey called "Mbaba ladeh" I was in the infant (called ABC) class of 1962. Any classmates around? by then the late John Baldeh was the headteacher and I could remember our popular school songs like "father cleary's motor had a punture on the road....... etc. I would surely be in touch with the Society's representative in Gambia and pay my yearly subscription and pledge my full support for any project you have in the making to develop our dear Basse. I suggest we also think abou growing trees along the main streets/roads in the town for shade and also environmental contributions as many of the trees in Basse are old aged and need to be replaced. Tears run down my cheeks whenever I think of the good old Basse days. We lived in junior government quarters by the Fatoto road junction. Thanks

Re: Proud of Basse

Bro. Sarjo,

We welcome everybody to be on board. I think most of us will only recall back the places you mentioned for it was long before many of us were born. ( lol)

You brought something that we will take along in our future projects . The "trees" along the main the roads and elsewhere will be looked at.

Wonderful to hear that folks like you have Basse at heart.

Cheers

Re: Re: Proud of Basse

My Dear MS (Sellou) Basse has and will ever have a special place in my heart with the possibility of going to spend my later years of life there
I feel a town like Basse deserves more from her past, present and future inhabitants taking intpo account the cosmopolitan and geographical staus of the town. Basse accomodates all tribes and nationalities all feeling at home. I have never heard of any tribal clashes or anti foreigner sentiments in Basse. This is clearly manifested by the composition of clubs and associations, people only talk about the area in Bassse they come from like mansajang, kaba camma, angal futa etc but nothing like Fulla, mandingoes, sarahullehs etc
Let me recall there was an old woman from the Jambang family who hated being called "bamba wayeh, sisay koyoh" etc. we would shout that at her and run away as she hurled nasty parental insults at us. Another old man believed to be mentally retarded would walk around telling people in Fulla " jaggu letarr ma. si ko gorrko, jodo gai,she ko debboh walu gai" ( meaning -grap your letter. if you are a male sit here, if you are female sleep here) There was also a restaurant where the vendor cries outin Fulla "No wulli ,no welleh" meaning its hot,its sweet"
Sellou, Basse should be honored by all taking into account its the first port of call for all entering the Gambia from our neighbouring countries. We need to make our dear Basse look better than all her neighbouring cities
I shall surely be in touch through thick and thin as Basse is where I started learning so its my "karamo kunda"
Cheers
