The Basse Association (BA), a non-profit and non-political organisation, recently donated some hospital materials to the Basse Major Health Centre at a presentation ceremony held at the health centre in Basse, Upper River Region (URR).

The association was established basically to unify and voluntarily mobilise all descendants and residents, particularly those in the Diaspora. The donated materials included bed sheets, towels, and handkerchiefs among other.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Alhaji Omar khan, the regional governor of URR, said that the move by BA clearly testified their good citizenship. He described the gesture as timely noting that government alone cannot do it all. Khan further informed the gathering that the health centre is currently on transformation from major to district health centre. This, he said, need much resource mobilisation as it is not an easy task.

This donation to the health centre, he added, is a challenge and called on the community and the health centre staff to put the items into good use. Khan commended BA for the donation and called on other philanthropists to come forward and assist the health centre.

Abdoulie Jammeh, the senior nursing officer in charge of the health centre, expressed gratitude to BA for the assistance. He reiterated that his health centre is on transformation to district health centre and it needs a lot of resources. Jammeh called on NGOs and private sector for more assistance. He promised that the items donated will be put into good use and finally thanked BA for the donation.

Momodou Lamin Fofana, administrative officer at the Regional Health Team, noted that assisting people is part of national development. He advised the health centre to direct the items to their intended purpose so that the association can have the courage to render more support.

Assan Touray, a member of the BA, said that the association has immediate focus on health, education and sports.  He informed the gathering that his association deem it necessary to assist the health centre as government alone cannot do it all.
